FC Motown (NJ), a Community Team with National Ambitions, joins USL League Two beginning in the summer of 2021.

Morristown, New Jersey. – The United Soccer League (USL) today announced the addition of FC Motown to USL League Two, extending the league’s sprawling footprint as the country’s top pre-professional leagues. FC Motown brings an additional League Two presence to the Garden State and will compete in the Metropolitan Division beginning in 2021. FC Motown joins a strong and growing contingent of League Two clubs from New Jersey, becoming the fourth Garden State team to join the league ahead of the 2021 season.

FC Motown intends to again play its games at Ranger Stadium on the beautiful campus of Drew University located in Morris County. “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome FC Motown to League Two” said USL League Two Vice President Joel Nash. “The club has an incredible reputation both regionally and nationally and is poised to immediately compete on the field while representing the league’s community-driven values of it.” Based in Morristown, FC Motown was founded in 2012 by Co-Owners and high school classmates Scott Kindzierski and Dan Karosen. Since then, the club has developed into a powerhouse at the amateur level, twice reaching the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and reaching the National Premier Soccer League national final once.

FC Motown finished as national runners-up in the previously mentioned National Premier Soccer League national final in 2018, narrowly losing to Miami FC (now of the USL Championship) in the league final. The club was invited to compete in the prestigious Hank Steinbrecher Cup in 2019, where it played against League Two’s Flint City Bucks, before the Bucks went on to win the 2019 USL League Two national title.

Many FC Motown alumni have gone on to play at the professional level, including Haitian international striker Christiano Francois, who has played for five clubs at the USL Championship level. The club’s core values are evident in its motto, “Community Team, National Ambition.” “League Two will provide the club an opportunity to develop some of the best young players in the New York/New Jersey metro area,” said Kindzierski. “We will enjoy local rivalries and tremendous competition. This is another milestone for a club that started as a co-ed team in 2012 and has made the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the fourth consecutive year.”

“We are excited to be joining League Two for the 2021 season and beyond,” said Karosen. “FC Motown has had some tremendous battles against New York Red Bulls U23 and the Flint City Bucks in the national competitions. This league will give us a platform to cultivate a younger player base and compete for a national title.”

In joining League Two, FC Motown will offer a proven pathway to professional soccer for its players, both those at the elite collegiate level and the top academy-age players from the region. On top of the valuable experience of playing in the nation’s most competitive pre-professional environment, League Two also provides growth opportunities for its coaches, executives, and communities.
