FC Motown is excited to formally introduce our 2022 Summer Interns. This summer, we will be involved in multiple leagues including the NPSL, EDPU23, USL2, with our partners at STA, and the WPSL. No job will go unnoticed this summer, and we are thrilled to have these interns to help us ensure we put out a stellar product on and off the pitch. We have a wide variety of interns who all offer a different skill set we think can help the team. Get to know each intern a little more down below.
Andrew Della Fera- Andrew is a senior at Verona High School, and will be attending Rutgers University in the fall to study business and Italian. This summer he will be working with our game day operations and community relations staff. He said he hopes "to grow the club's name and reputation throughout New Jersey." Della Fera has played soccer his entire life and was on the varsity soccer team for all four years of high school. He also played his club ball at STA. When he graduates college, Andrew wants to work for FIFA or the continental football confederations. Specifically UEFA or CONMEBOL. An interesting fact about him is that he is a passionate soccer fan who loves to watch the game at all levels, from the Somali Premier League, to the Montenegrin First League.
Annabel Callahan- Annabel is a 19 year-old rising sophomore at Elon University. She is from Maplewood NJ, and she graduated from Columbia High School in 2021. Callahan was captain of her soccer team in high school, and has earned that same honor in college with her club team. She was president of the Future Business Leaders of America Club, and is also involved with the Women's Influencers in Sports Club at Elon. At FC Motown this summer, Annabel will be helping out with our gameday operations. Callahan said she "wants to learn how to adapt quickly to any obstacles that may come my way, so that I help provide the best experience for everyone during gamedays." When she graduates, Annabel wants to work in the sports industry, preferably women's sports, as she is very passionate about empowering female athletes. A fun fact about Callahan is that she has torn both of her ACL's.
Matt Hammer- Matt is 21 years-old and attends the University of Pittsburgh. He is pursuing a degree in film and media studies, with a certificate in sports studies and broadcasting. He was born in Lancaster PA, but grew up in Watchung, NJ. Hammer graduated from Watchung Regional High School in 2019, before starting his college career the Monday after graduation. At Pitt, Matt has worked with WPTS radio to do color commentary for Pitt football games, along with a weekly sports talk show. Matt will be doing some video editing along with some other media work for FC Motown this summer. He said he wants to "improve his editing skills and work in sports broadcasting after college." One random fact about Matt, is he has wanted to attend the University of Pittsburgh since he was five years-old.
Molly Collins- Molly is 23 years-old, and goes to Centenary University. She is a senior at Centenary, and will be doing a fifth year starting next fall. She graduated high school in 2018, and played basketball in all four years of high school. Collins has also been playing basketball in college as well. For FC Motown this summer, Molly will be doing game day operations and said she "would like to gain as much experience as I can in the sports industry and how to run a gameday event." When she graduates college, Molly wants to be working in sports events and management. A fun fact about Collins is that she loves sushi.
Kayla Horvaht- Kayla is 19 years-old, and she attends the University of New Haven. She is from Longhill, NJ and graduated from high school in 2021. Horvaht played for the Watchung Hills Warriors Women's soccer team all four years of high school, and was apart of the chorus all four years as well. With FC Motown this summer, Kayla will be working with the gameday operations staff. She said she "wants to learn more about the marketing and management side of what goes behind game day events. I am well informed on how players prepare for gameday, but understanding the administrative aspect of it is what I hope to gain," When she graduates college, she wants to become a marketing manger. One random fact about Horvaht is that she is trilingual, speaking Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
Zach Wolpin- Zach is 23 years-old, and just recently graduated from Montclair State University. He is from South Plainfield, NJ and graduated from South Plainfield High School in 2017. Wolpin played varsity football in high school, was a member of the Jersyan History Club, and worked with Hero's and Cool Kids. For FC Motown, Zach will be helping run our social media accounts, along with doing some writing for the team as well. He said he "is excited for the opportunity to work with FC Motown this summer. Soccer is a sport I need more knowledge about, and there's no better place to learn." Wolpin wants to work in the sports media and entertainment industry. Something interesting about Zach is that he likes to play ultimate frisbee with his friends who, he's been playing with for 10 years.
Lazlo Stauss- Lazlo is 19 years-old, and attends Drew University. He graduated from Morristown High School in 2021, and was on the soccer and lacrosse teams. Stauss will be helping with gameday operations along with community outreach. He said “I hope to learn how to be part of a successful brand and help take it to the next level." A fun fact about Lazlo is that he currently plays soccer for Drew University, as well as the UPSL league. He is looking forward to improving his soccer career.
Henry Shwartz- Henry is 21 years-old, and currently attends Denison University. He graduated from Westfield High School, where he played soccer, as well as continuing his career at Denison. This summer Henry will be doing match-day logistics, as well as trying to help expand the club's reputation. He also wants to look into doing some game analytics for the team. Shwartz said “I hope to learn and gain experience in trying to run a semi-professional club. I think this summer can help me with my goal of going into marketing and expanding that experience.” Something interesting about Henry is that he is a massive Manchester United fan, though his favorite sports are actually fishing and golf.
Jordan Sosa- Jordan is 20 years-old, and he attends Ithaca College, where he is a sports management major. He is from New York, and graduated from Xavier High School. Sosa plays Football and Rugby at Ithaca. This summer he will be helping with community relations and gameday operations. He said he “is trying to gain more experience and have a feel for working for a team.” When Jordan graduates, he wants to work for a sports team as a scout or event staff. Something interesting about Sosa is that he has a black belt in MMA.
At FC Motown, we want to ensure we are ready both on and off the pitch. Through the help of our 2022 summer interns, and the rest of our wonderful staff and coaches, we plan to have great team success. We are in talks with bringing on a few more interns over the next week. Please come out this summer and support our players and coaches who continue to give 100% all the time.
