“This game promises to be sensational with both teams littered with top talent", an excerpt from our game preview that proved to be eerily accurate! FC Motown fell just short in their National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) home opener vs West Chester United.
Opening up the scoring on Saturday night was midfielder Danny Cordeiro in the 10th minute. A long throw from Zach Perez was flicked on by Joseph Fala; he found the Motown midfielder Cordeiro on the edge of the box who struck a beautiful half volley into the corner.
West Chester would have an almost immediate answer to Motown’s opening goal. In the 12th minute, a corner floated in by Derek Ramirez was met by a powerful and precise header from Ndeh Tima to tie the game at 1-1.
It was extremely hot and humid on Saturday, and the match was paused at one point so that players and referees could get a hydration break. Despite the heat, West Chester would score again in the 62nd minute, this time assist provider Dominick Bachstein was the scorer, where he leaped above all and headed in a cross from Ramirez to give his squad the 3-1 lead.
Motown would pull one back in the 74th minute. Defender Samuel Pompe clipped in a corner which was headed down by Jean Voltaire, and slotted home by forward Assane Ben Fall. Motown pushed for the game-tying goal until the end but came up short, with the match ending 3-2, in a loss. West Chester now has a 2-0 overall record in the NPSL, averaging three points per game. Motown has a 1-1 overall record, and averages 1.5 points per game
Both teams played an extremely tough match, battling the weather and each other. The two clubs have a lot of respect for one another. Motown’s next NPSL game is Sunday, May 29, at 7:00pm.
